Introduction
Success in international cricket isn’t just about fielding the best talent — it’s about intentionally building mindset and communication strategies to withstand intense scrutiny and pressure. Ahead of The Ashes, ECB Women partnered with Mindflick to develop a shared performance language, helping players and staff understand themselves, strengthen teamwork, and stay focused in high-stakes moments.
The challenge
As the women’s and girls’ game continues to grow, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recognised the need to strengthen support for players on the international pathway. Beyond technical skills, the team saw that mindset, communication, and support structures would be critical in driving long-term success.
With The Ashes on the horizon, ECB Women wanted to ensure players and staff could perform under pressure, communicate effectively, and align as a cohesive unit—on and off the field. This required a shared understanding of strengths, a framework for handling high-pressure moments, and a culture of support that enabled players to reset and refocus quickly.
The solution
The impact
ECB Women saw tangible improvements in how the team operated under pressure and supported each other on the ground. Players developed greater self-awareness, gaining clarity on what helps them perform at their best and how to manage challenges effectively. The squad became more aligned and efficient in high-pressure situations, particularly when handling difficult conversations. With a clearer understanding of what to say and when, staff and players could help each other refocus and get back on track quickly.
This summer marked just phase one in ECB Women’s journey with Mindflick, establishing the foundation for a shared performance language across players and staff. Looking ahead, the team is excited to deepen this integration, ensuring that every individual can operate at their best and contribute to collective success.
